highest population density in the United States (population per square
mile) has one of the lowest rates of food stamp users. It would be
nice to think that this was because few people needed food stamps
in our state. Unfortunately the data doesn't support such a rosy
conclusion! In South Jersey alone, over 100,000 people need emergency
food assistance.
That's why the FBSJ joined a statewide and national campaign to
offer SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program), an outreach
program designed specifically for those people who might qualify
for food stamps but fear or lack of understanding prevent them from
applying.
Working with the County Board of Social Services and local organizations,
the FBSJ reaches out to people at pantries, soup kitchens, missions
and shelters to insure that food stamp benefits are applied for and
retained by those who qualify.
