Subaru Workers in Cherry Hill Garden While They Work

Monday, July 18th, 2009 – KYW Radio

By John Ostapkovich

Garden while at work? That's what's going on at Subaru of America headquarters in Cherry Hill, NJ.

They call it the "Share the Love Garden," a first year project enlisting about 40 employee volunteers at Subaru HQ on Route 70 to go outside and play in the dirt. Subaru spokeswoman Heather Ward:

"We allow time to go out an take a break and harvest and tend to the gardens. We have our gardening shoes and everything we've supplied, Subaru gear, so they can go out there and not worry about dirtying up their own clothes."

And there's a higher purposes to getting down and dirty. A portion of the garden's bounty is being given to the Food Bank of South Jersey. Ward says there's also a competitive spirit here, as workers from different divisions till different plots to see who can out produce the others.
